EvergreenHealth Monroe Seeks New Board Member After Long-Serving Commissioner Steps Down
Following Steve Matuschak's resignation, the community-owned hospital is accepting applications from qualified candidates for Commissioner-At-Large Position #5 until midnight Nov. 11, 2024.
MONROE, Wash. — After 10 years of dedicated service, Steve Matuschak has announced his resignation as Commissioner for Snohomish County Public Hospital District #1 (SCPHD#1), Position #5, effective Oct. 21, 2024. Since joining the Board of Commissioners in 2014, Matuschak has been an advocate for EvergreenHealth Monroe and the broader community.
"We are grateful for his commitment to the well-being of our district's residents and his dedication to the role," said SCPHD#1 Superintendent and EvergreenHealth Monroe Chief Administrative Officer Lisa LaPlante. "His leadership has been instrumental in ensuring that the residents of Snohomish County have access to the highest-quality, safest, and most exceptional health care experience."
As a result of Matuschak's resignation, EvergreenHealth Monroe is seeking a qualified community member to fill the Commissioner-At-Large Position #5. Residents who are interested can apply by submitting their statement of qualifications through the application form available on EvergreenHealth Monroe's website before midnight Nov. 11.
EvergreenHealth Monroe/SCPHD#1 is one of two hospitals in the EvergreenHealth hospital system. As a public hospital district, EvergreenHealth Monroe is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, each selected by district voters to serve a six-year term. The Board provides oversight to the hospital, advocates for residents' health and ensures EvergreenHealth Monroe provides the community with high-quality, high-value care.
The ideal candidate is an engaged community member who lives within the boundaries of SCPHD #1, is committed to improving the health of everyone within the district and is deeply connected within their community. The role requires gathering input from stakeholders and being a strong advocate for their needs. Each commissioner represents the voice of the district's residents by advancing the hospital's mission to "advance the health of the community it serves through dedication to high quality, safe, compassionate and cost-effective health care." Each commissioner must also support the hospital's Core Pillars of Success, which include Culture & People, Clinical Excellence, Experience & Loyalty and Growth & Access.
The successful candidate will be expected to dedicate 25-35 hours per month, including attending board meetings, committee meetings, mandatory training, continuing education courses and meeting preparation. The appointment to Commissioner-At-Large Position #5 will be for an interim period starting from the appointment date through Dec. 31, 2025, which represents the remainder of the current term.
Interested candidates are invited to visit EvergreenHealth Monroe's website to learn more about the position and apply.
