EvergreenHealth Total Joint Replacement Program Recognized as Only DNV Center of Excellence in Greater Seattle Area
KIRKLAND, Wash. — EvergreenHealth's Total Joint Replacement Program has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for Advanced Hip and Knee Replacement by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), a hospital accreditation organization through the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). It is the only joint program in the Greater Seattle Metropolitan area to earn the distinction.
This recognition acknowledges the exceptional development and implementation of various systems and operational improvements of the advanced joint replacement services, including the Pre-Op Clinic, the surgical teams and the nurses and staff responsible for caring for patients after their surgery. The certification demonstrates EvergreenHealth's commitment to patient safety, exceptional quality of care and outcomes for the patient population the community-owned hospital serves.
Additionally, this recognition affirms EvergreenHealth's excellence in orthopedic surgery within the scope of hip and knee arthroplasty and related procedures, including initial diagnostic services, surgical services and therapies related to hip and knee replacement care.
"Achieving DNV's Advanced Hip & Knee Certification is a reflection of our entire team's commitment to providing superior care and service for patients pursuing joint replacement," said Kirk Hanson, executive director of EvergreenHealth Neuroscience, Spine & Orthopedic Institute. "Our program aligns technology, doctors, staff and comprehensive training to deliver excellence in orthopedic surgery from diagnosis to treatment, education and rehabilitation."
The DNV Advanced Hip and Knee Replacement Certification requirements were created following the ERAS® Society Orthopaedic and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons guidelines, as well as relevant requirements for the CMS Conditions of Participation for Hospitals.
"We are so proud that our commitment to excellence is reflected through these recognitions," said Jeff Stepanian, PA-C, who led preparation for the DNV survey. "Our orthopedic team makes it their priority for patients to feel safe and comfortable through all procedures and that their concerns, expectations and goals are carefully addressed. Our goal is nothing less than excellence."
Additionally, EvergreenHealth's overall quality and expertise are recognized by numerous other awards:
- Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award, placing EvergreenHealth in the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for clinical quality
- The Leapfrog Group's 'A' rating for patient safety, based on how well hospitals keep patients safe from errors, accidents and infections
- CMS Hospital Compare's 5-star rating—one of just three hospitals in the Puget Sound region and one of just 455 hospitals nationwide
