EvergreenHealth ranked top in the Puget Sound region for Critical Care by Healthgrades
Kirkland, Washington – EvergreenHealth is ranked No. 1 in the Puget Sound region and among the top two hospitals in Washington state for critical care in 2023 by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients.
This is the second consecutive year EvergreenHealth has ranked highest for critical care in the Puget Sound region.
"We're constantly developing ways to improve patient care and experience within the Intensive Care Unit, and recognitions like this wouldn't be possible without the high standards and genuine passion our critical care team demonstrates to our patients and families every day," said Sharukh Lokhandwala, MD, pulmonary and critical care specialist at EvergreenHealth.
The recognition reflects EvergreenHealth's commitment to continually enhancing quality care and service, which was recently exemplified by the opening of its new state-of-art intensive care unit in 2021.
EvergreenHealth's 20-bed ICU is double the size of the health system's previous critical care unit, which was pivotal to the health system's early response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Among the unit's unique updates, larger patient rooms are able to accommodate new leading-edge monitoring equipment and technology. A state-of-the-art ventilation system gives staff the ability to independently control ventilation in each ICU room and prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne pathogens while also giving patients' families the space they need to support their loved ones.
Beyond structural updates to the unit, Dr. Lokhandwala says the critical care team's collaboration with the entire hospital is among its most valuable strengths.
"For patients receiving ventilator support in the ICU, our goal is to support them through their illness while helping them retain as much of their strength and prior function. For some, we even strive to help them walk while they are still on a ventilator receiving intensive care," Dr. Lokhandwala explained. "Maintaining their mobility can improve recovery with the goal being to get them back to the life that they want to live once they leave the hospital. This involves numerous physicians and staff members, including physical therapists, respiratory therapists, technicians and nurses, all dedicated to helping the patient in the simple act of walking."
For the State Ranking analysis, Healthgrades evaluated clinical performance for nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide focusing on 18 key specialties across a mix of chronic, urgent, and surgical specialty areas.
Hospitals recognized as top-ranked in their state by Healthgrades are providing patients with consistently better-than-expected clinical outcomes.
EvergreenHealth was also ranked No. 1 in Washington for stroke care, No. 1 for Critical Care in the Seattle area, in the top two in Washington for Critical Care, and was named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades.
"Being top-ranked in Washington is a testament to EvergreenHealth's continued commitment to top-quality care," said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science, Healthgrades. "Top-ranking hospitals have a proven track record of delivering superior outcomes for the patients in their community. For almost 25 years, our mission has been to provide consumers with clear and accessible information to make more informed healthcare decisions. Patients can feel confident knowing that they have access to high-quality care and services at EvergreenHealth."
