Lown Institute Ranks EvergreenHealth No. 1 in Nation for Clinical Outcomes
Kirkland, Wash. — EvergreenHealth recently surpassed more than 3,600 hospitals across the nation to rank No. 1 for clinical outcomes in 2022 by the Lown Institute, a nonprofit and nonpartisan thinktank advocating bold ideas for a just and caring system for health.
Each year, the Lown Institute Hospital Index examines and ranks hospitals' performance based on outcomes, value and equity. It measures clinical outcomes by looking at how hospitals perform in areas of outcomes, patient safety and patient satisfaction. Specifically, it looks at patient mortality and readmission rates across various timeframes, including in-hospital mortality and 7-day and 30-day readmissions.
"This recognition is a reflection of the commitment of every healthcare provider, staff member and volunteer across the health system to provide our patients and families with safe, superior care and service," said EvergreenHealth Chief Medical and Quality Officer Ettore Palazzo, MD. "While it is a profound honor to be recognized for our clinical care, our commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes is central to our accountability as a community-owned health system. Our purpose guides us in providing high-value care and service to all residents and families in our growing region, and we're committed to continually delivering exceptional care."
In addition to ranking the highest for clinical outcomes, EvergreenHealth also ranked second in Washington state for delivering high-value care by avoiding low-value services like tests and procedures that offer little clinical benefit, and cost efficiency based on local cost of living and labor costs.
According to the Lown Institute, its Hospitals Index is the first ranking to define clear, measurable standards for hospital social responsibility. The Lown Index takes into account the full breadth of what hospitals do as care providers, employers and community partners and seeks to shine a light on those hospitals that provide exceptional, high-value patient care to all who need it in their community.
This recognition is the latest in a host of other awards EvergreenHealth has recently earned. Earlier this year, the health system was named among America's 50 Best™ Hospitals by Healthgrades and among the top hospitals in the Puget Sound region and the state of Washington by U.S. News & World Report.
