EvergreenHealth Ranks in the Top 10% of Hospitals in the U.S. for Outstanding Patient Experience
Kirkland, Washington – EvergreenHealth announced today that it has earned the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ and is the only hospital in the Seattle Area* to be named one of Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals and to receive the Outstanding Patient Experience Award in 2022.
This distinction places EvergreenHealth among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects people with the right doctor and hospital.
"Our commitment to leading with our patient-centered approach has been core to our mission, vision and values for the past 50 years," said EvergreenHealth CEO Jeff Tomlin, MD. "Providing exceptional service is critical to achieving safe, high-quality care with great outcomes. Listening to our patients and their families and communicating effectively go far in making a good experience. This latest recognition from Healthgrades reflects our team's commitment to providing an experience that reduces stress and promotes healing and good health during an important time in one's life."
For its patient experience analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,173 hospitals that submitted at least 75 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from July 2020 to March 2021. Of those hospitals evaluated, 399 hospitals outperformed their peers—based on their patients' responses—to achieve this award.
Healthgrades evaluates performance by applying a scoring methodology to ten patient experience measures, using data collected from HCAHPS survey of the hospital's patients. Survey questions focus on patients' perspectives of their care in the hospital. These questions range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to medication explanations and hospital staff responsiveness to patients' needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family and their overall rating of the hospital.
"We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations," said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science, Healthgrades. "We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience while ensuring the health and safety of their patients."
Earlier this year, EvergreenHealth was Washington's only public hospital district to be recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, placing it among the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for clinical outcomes.
EvergreenHealth also earned the top grade this spring from The Leapfrog Group, a leading independent watchdog organization on hospital quality and safety, as well as another recognition from Healthgrades that distinguishes the health system as part of the organization's newly released state rankings data for clinical outcomes.
Healthgrades' State Ranking Analysis for 2022 also designated EvergreenHealth as Washington's highest-ranked hospital for stroke care and the highest-ranked hospital in the Seattle area for critical care and pulmonary care. The new state rankings also place EvergreenHealth among the top two hospitals in the state for critical care and pulmonary care. These rankings put EvergreenHealth in the top 5% in the nation for stroke and pulmonary care and in the top 10% in the nation for critical care, among the 4,500 hospitals analyzed nationwide.
