EvergreenHealth Names Dr. Mark Freeborn as Chief Medical Officer of EvergreenHealth Medical Group
Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth recently announced Mark Freeborn, MD, has been named chief medical officer of EvergreenHealth Medical Group (EHMG), the organization's physician-led and designed group of more than 350 employed primary care doctors, specialists and providers. Dr. Freeborn, who specializes in orthopedic spine surgery, has been with EvergreenHealth for 13 years and continues to serve as chief surgeon.
In his role as chief medical officer for EHMG, Dr. Freeborn will oversee operations, staff and provider engagement, stewardship, clinical quality and strategic growth of the medical group, which includes 12 primary care practices, 48 specialty practices and teams of hospitalists and intensivists dedicated to providing exceptional in-patient care.
In addition, he will partner with senior leaders throughout the health system to develop and coordinate all operation-focused functions that support the overall success of EHMG.

Dr. Freeborn joined EvergreenHealth's medical staff in 2009, and in 2015 became an orthopedics spine surgeon at EvergreenHealth's Spine, Back & Neck Care practice. Since then, he's served as executive medical director of surgical subspecialties and was later named chief surgeon. In addition to his new role as chief medical officer for EHMG, Dr. Freeborn will continue his medical practice by seeing patients and performing surgery.
Prior to joining EvergreenHealth, Dr. Freeborn served as a spine surgeon for ProOrtho, a Kirkland-based private practice specializing in orthopedic surgery. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He then went on to complete a surgical residency in orthopedics and sports medicine followed by a combined orthopedic and neurosurgical fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at Harborview Medical Center and The University of Washington in Seattle.
In his free time, Dr. Freeborn enjoys golfing, skiing and spending time with his wife and their three children.
