EvergreenHealth Awarded for Exceptional Stroke Care

EvergreenHealth's Stroke Program earned the highest level of certification as a
Comprehensive Stroke Center

Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth, part of the Eastside Neuroscience Institute, announced today that its stroke program has been awarded a Comprehensive Stroke Center certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Healthcare. This distinguished recognition is awarded to facilities that provide the highest level of stroke care, offering the skills and resources to provide top-level, destination stroke care for patients and families in the community.

This highly regarded certification recognizes EvergreenHealth as having the experts on staff and advanced equipment necessary to diagnose, treat and support stroke patients who require highly intensive medical or surgical treatment, specialized tests and interventional therapies.

"Our team of specialists has been collaborating for many years to build a state-of-the-art center that provides efficient, effective and high-quality care," said Sheila Smith, MD, EvergreenHealth's Medical Director for Stroke. "Throughout the journey, we've seen tremendous engagement and collaboration among our staff, and we've watched our stroke quality metrics improve, even as our volumes have increased."

EvergreenHealth is one of the few comprehensive stroke centers in Washington state and one of 139 in the nation to earn the Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification.

"DNV Healthcare's independent review of our stroke program's protocols, quality data and multidisciplinary team has earned our center the highest level of certification, recognizing the exceptional level of care we've pledged to provide our patients," said Dr. Smith.

Formed 17 years ago, EvergreenHealth's stroke program combines teams across service lines and includes state-of-the-art standards for: thrombectomy, the procedure to remove blood clots that cause strokes; care for hemorrhagic (bleeding) strokes; and management of brain aneurysms.

Today, the program is part of the Eastside Neuroscience Institute, which was created as a partnership between EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center and Clinics to further enhance stroke, spine and neuroscience care for the Eastside community and beyond. Through the partnership, the organizations amplify their collective expertise, technology and resources to provide comprehensive care.

"This recent certification illustrates the exceptional outcomes both EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center and Clinics can achieve together" said David Likosky, MD, Executive Medical Director, Eastside Neuroscience Institute.

The certification follows an August 2022 survey by DNV Healthcare, an international organization that grants stroke program accreditation.
