Robotic Surgery

EvergreenHealth Surgical Care offers pioneering medical technology and remains on the forefront of minimally-invasive surgical techniques. Our physicians were among the first in the Puget Sound area to perform robot-assisted surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. The da Vinci® system uses advanced robotics allowing surgeons to operate through dime-sized abdominal incisions, sparing patients needless pain, recovery time and scarring.

Our specialists monitor the surgery through a tiny endoscope camera providing 3-D images and magnifying the area up to 10 times its size. A control console allows surgeons to direct robotic "arms" to perform precise movements with a range of motion greater than the human hand - all the while compensating for natural hand tremor. Together, these technological advancements provide da Vinci® surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control in many complex surgical procedures.

In some cases, we offer single-site incision which provides an even less invasive procedure for the patient.

Remember: The da Vinci® surgery never places a robot at the controls. Your surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci® robotic platform.

Advantages

The benefits of da Vinci® are clear from the surgeon’s point of view. With da Vinci®, a physician can perform operations that might otherwise be impossible. But the advantage of da Vinci® is even more pronounced for the patient. After da Vinci® surgery, patients can expect:

  • Faster recovery
  • Less pain and trauma to the body
  • Minimized scarring
  • More precise surgery
  • Less blood loss
  • Less risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Higher patient satisfaction

Procedures

The da Vinci® Surgery System is amazingly versatile and can be used to treat a variety of medical problems. At EvergreenHealth Surgical Care, we use the da Vinci® for gallbladder and colorectal surgeries when indicated.

da Vinci® Surgery (Robot-Assisted)

EvergreenHealth has long been a pioneer in the development of new techniques for minimally invasive surgery, where smaller incisions replace the larger open incisions of traditional surgeries.

We also offer the da Vinci® surgery system as a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.

What is the da Vinci® Surgical System?

The da Vinci® Surgical System uses advanced robotic technology* that allows surgeons to operate through small, dime-size abdominal incisions. Seated at a console, the surgeon views the surgical area through a tiny endoscope camera that reveals 3-D images magnified up to ten times larger than the actual size.

The controls at the console allow the surgeon to direct robot "arms" to perform precise surgery with a variety of specialized surgical instruments. The robotic instruments are able to achieve a range of motion greater than the human hand, and can compensate for natural hand tremor.

Together, these technological advancements provide da Vinci® surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach to many complex surgical procedures.

For some procedures we offer single-site incision, providing an even less invasive procedure for the patient.

* It is important to know that da Vinci® surgery does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci® robotic platform.

What are the advantages of da Vinci® robotic surgery?

A quicker recovery for patients. da Vinci® surgery reduces pain and trauma to the body, allowing patients to recover quicker and return to their normal activities faster than with traditional open surgery. Scarring is also minimized.

Better precision for surgeons. Cameras used in normal endoscopic surgery provide two-dimensional images. The da Vinci® robotic surgery system provides 3-D images that can be magnified allowing physicians an incredibly accurate view of the operating area.
