Suicide Prevention

Suicide and attempted suicide are major health concerns in Washington state and across the entire U.S. Impacting individuals of all ages and all ethnicities, preventing suicide means improving the health of our community and all communities throughout the state.

Resources

Some warning signs that a friend or loved one could be contemplating suicide include:

  • Changes in eating and sleeping patterns
  • Dropping hints or talking about suicide
  • Giving away prized possessions
  • Exhibiting obsessive behavior or being perfectionistic
  • Engaging in risky behavior like driving aggressively or increased drug use

Do not be afraid to address the situation with them immediately. Bringing up the topic of suicide and talking about your concerns could prevent an attempt at suicide and save their life.

If your friend or loved one is exhibiting three or more of the above warning signs, they’ve been exhibiting them for more than two weeks and you feel their behavior is severe, it could mean they need to connect with emergency resources urgently.

If you feel as though you may harm yourself or you need immediate crisis intervention help, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 988.

If you prefer to text, send the message "hello" to the Crisis Text Line at 741741.
