Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is one of the most precise forms of radiation therapy available, and has proven very successful for the treatment of prostate cancer.
In our outcome studies of prostate cancer treatment for men who chose this approach since the implementation of IMRT technology in 2000 at EvergreenHealth, 98% show no evidence of disease evaluated in the follow-up by the PSA test.
How does IMRT work?
Using fused CT and MRI scans, IMRT creates a customized dose cloud of radiation that is highly contoured to that person's prostate, but spares normal tissues nearby.
Three gold seeds implanted in the prostate help radiation therapists make sure the prostate is in exactly the right position for every one of the 40+ treatments.
This precision allows us to blast the cancer with a higher dose of radiation to kill it, while sparing surrounding tissue from the radiation.
It's unmatched accuracy, and unmatched outcomes.
The advanced technology of IMRT is turning prostate cancer from a life-threatening disease into a chronic disease that can be monitored.
