Experience

Dr. Michael Codsi is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow repair. During his orthopedic residency, Dr. Codsi learned how to perform joint replacement and tendon/ligament repairs from the surgeons who invented the procedures. During his fellowship, he spent three years researching the biomechanics of shoulder implants, the biology of tendon healing and the outcomes of complex shoulder reconstructions. That work was eventually was awarded a Cleveland Clinic Innovations award. Since moving to the Seattle area, Dr. Codsi has continued his research on rotator cuff repairs and he helps educate clinicians, therapists and patients with educational seminars. He completed a rotator cuff repair study with 13 other study centers around the country, the results of which were published in two orthopedic surgery journals. Dr. Codsi is also a team doctor for the Everett Aquasox minor league baseball team.

That's why I work really hard to make sure you understand exactly what's wrong with your shoulder and thoroughly understand the treatment plan we discussed.
I make sure you understand your options before offering my advice about which option to choose. I like to think patients appreciate my care because I make them feel confident that they are getting the best treatment that will help them get back to their normal activities.

Personal Information

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young kids who love to play sports and generally wear me out. They like to tell people that their dad fixes shoulders and their mom fixes everything else!

Community Involvement

My wife and I enjoy supporting our favorite charity Tree House, which is a non-profit organization that gives foster children in King County a better chance to succeed.

Dr. Codsi is one of the VERY BEST of my many specialists in the Evergreen network. His style is unique in that he always greets me with a welcoming smile, pulls a chair close, and asks a few questions about, "How's it going" in my life in general, then gets down to business with the reason for my appointment. He answers all my questions in 'plain-speak' and I never feel rushed. Thank you Dr. Codsi!

Dr. Codsi always made you feel comfortable and showed genuine concern about me. He was very kind and helpful going over all the information about my surgery. I feel I was very lucky to have such a kind man take care of me. His staff of so many people are the best there is. Dr. Codsi is an excellent surgeon. He explained about the surgery very well and made feel comfortable. Before surgery he tried several things like physical therapy, injection etc. Finally he decided to do the surgery. Now I am recovering and feeling better. I thank Dr. Codsi whole heartedly.

My only criticism is that in the response via portal about my MRI he said there was nothing wrong when the MRI said there was and that was confusing to me. I asked a follow-up question and have not heard back yet but It's only been half a day.

Dr Codsi was very attentive. He explained the procedure very clearly. I didn't even know when he gave me the Cortizone shot!

Dr. was only interested in me if I wanted surgery. When I explained what happened in emergency dept. he tried to cover it up and say the further injury was my fault even though x-ray showed differently. Dr. also said look online for physical therapy rather than give me a referral.

This was my 1st time visiting Dr. Codsi (but not Evergreen Sports & Spine). I do not believe Dr Codsi listened to what I had to say and just brushed things off and was in a hurry.
