Philosophy of Care

I appreciate the important work of inpatient medicine because I have witnessed the expressions of fear, anxiety and powerlessness that patients and families experience during an acute illness. Though my primary role is to heal and cure, developing bonds of trust and open communication augments the recovery process.
As a hospitalist, I am a guide for you to help traverse the complicated pathways of the hospital by timely decision-making, coordination with consultants and primary care providers, working closely with nursing, social workers and our many therapists (physical, occupation, speech, etc.), and developing a safe discharge plan. My duties to you are to listen, diagnose, treat, explain, counsel and coordinate all the care providers and support staff.

Personal Information

Despite both of my parents being physicians, initially I rebelled in college and almost became a lawyer. I realized my error and understood my strengths, chose a path of medicine and have never regretted my decision. I decided to specialize in Internal Medicine because I enjoy the challenges of treating a wide array of diseases and, particularly Hospital Medicine, because I appreciate the acuity of illness and immediacy of finding solutions.
I grew up in Alabama and came to the Seattle area in 2002 for my wife to attend graduate school at the UW. We thought that we would live in the Northwest for 2-3 years, but now have made the Seattle area our home.
Our free time is spent with our two daughters, and I enjoy traveling, reading historical fiction, camping and watching college football (specifically, the Auburn Tigers).
