Pediatric Unit
We understand it's no fun for your child—or you—to spend time in the hospital. That's why we provide pediatric care in an environment that meets your child's needs for compassion and reassurance.
We encourage you to be actively involved in your child's care. Our staff will explain every phase of treatment so you can be a partner in the healing process. Your child will feel more comfortable having their parents involved, and you will feel more confident to care for your child once you return home.
You can even spend the night on the daybed in your child's room.
Our Pediatric Experts
Our pediatric hospitalists—the physicians who care for children in the hospital—are all on staff at Seattle Children's and work at EvergreenHealth as part of a collaboration with Children's. Parents appreciate that their kids can get care from Children's pediatric specialists at EvergreenHealth, which is more convenient to home.
The pediatric hospitalists all completed their three-year pediatric residencies at nationally known children's hospitals. They can handle a wide range of medical and surgical conditions in children from birth to adolescence.
The pediatric hospitalists practice at the hospital, so they are right there to order tests, interpret the results and order any additional treatments 24/7.
They keep in close contact with your child's primary care physician, providing a complete record of their hospital care and suggestions for follow-up care after discharge.
Pediatric Staff
Our pediatric nurses are trained in the fields of intensive care, orthopedics, medical-surgical and ambulatory care. They regularly attend continuing education classes to build upon their pediatric nursing skills.
Should your child need specialty services, pediatric consults are available in the following areas: allergy, pulmonology, nephrology, anesthesiology, urology, orthopedics, infectious disease, endocrinology and ear, nose & throat.
A Home-Like Place to Stay
We know a hospital stay can be stressful for both a child and the parents, especially when it involves an overnight stay.
That's why we've taken extra steps to ensure that our pediatric unit is as comfortable and home-like as possible.
Our private pediatric rooms each feature:
- Private bathroom
- Comfortable day bed, and bed linens, so a parent can stay with their child
- Refrigerator for storing snacks
- TV and DVD player for entertainment
- Ample storage space for everyone's things
The pediatric unit includes lounge areas and a kitchen, where families can prepare snacks and light meals.
Our pediatric playroom, "Sarah's Place," provides a nurturing, creative play environment that is a "safe haven" from medical procedures.
