Personal Information

I enjoy time with family. All three of my children participate in saber fencing at the national level, training with Olympic coach Ed Korfanty in Portland, OR. In my home we speak English, French, Japanese (and most recently, a bit of Italian).
I enjoy playing the piano, listening to music, modern art, and international travel, and am a voracious reader.
I also enjoy blogging at understandcancerin60minutes, and am the author of numerous books about cancer. I have published in the USA, Taiwan, and Japan, respectively.

Community Involvement

I am very active in the Susan Komen Foundation, serving on the Board of Directors for Puget Sound, and chairing the grants committee. I have also served on the medical advisory boards of the Washington Breast and Cervical Health Project, and the Bellevue College Radiation Therapy program.
I am also active in the Harvard University community, and have served as an interviewer for undergraduate admissions, as well as co-chair of the Schools & Scholarship Committee for western Washington.
