Our hospital volunteers are key to helping EvergreenHealth provide exceptional service to our patients and visitors.

In return, we provide the opportunity for meaningful experiences and the chance to make a difference in people's lives.

Notice About Junior Volunteer Applications

For applicants to our Junior Program (age 16-18), we currently have shifts available Monday-Friday at the Information Desks from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. and at our Gift Shops from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

When applying online, please submit your immunization records and current TB screening via fax to (425) 899-1997.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

  • 16 years of age or older to volunteer in the gift shops or at the information desks.
  • 18 years of age or older to volunteer in any department accepting volunteers.

What is the time commitment to be a volunteer?

You would make a six-month commitment to come in once a week for a three or four hour shift on the same day and shift each week OR commit to 100 volunteer service hours.

Is there a cost or fee to volunteer?

There is no cost to volunteer. You will receive free parking, training and uniforms at no cost.

Can I shadow a nurse or doctor as a volunteer?

Volunteer Services doesn't facilitate internships, externships, observing or shadowing experiences; these are usually arranged through educational programs at colleges and vocational schools. Please refer to the Job Shadow Students page for more information.

What volunteer opportunities do you offer?

EvergreenHealth volunteer opportunities are available on our Kirkland, Monroe and Redmond campuses:

Hospital Volunteers

You'll provide much needed support for staff, patients and visitors by helping behind the scenes in nursing areas, the emergency department, the information desks, the gift shop or in office areas and medical clinics.

Teen Volunteers

Teenagers 16 to 18 years old learn valuable skills and responsibility while obtaining community service credit for school.

Teen volunteer positions include the Information Desks or the Gift Shops.

Information Desk

You'll work with a team of volunteers in a fast paced environment to:

  • Greet visitors
  • Look up patient room numbers
  • Provide directions
  • Deliver flowers and mail to patients
  • Help staff with short errands
  • Provide wheelchair assistance to patients on discharge
  • Other tasks as requested

Gift Shop

You'll help in the hospital gift shops as a cashier, plus restocking, unpacking and marking new merchandise.

Office and Clinic Support

You'll provide support in various department offices or medical clinics to help staff with special projects or routine clerical tasks such as:

  • copying
  • faxing
  • chart preparation
  • filing
  • laminating
  • data entry
  • distribution of mail

Rehabilitation

You'll assist the rehabilitation department by helping with office tasks, answering transport service calls, entering data and other tasks.

Inpatient Surgery Liaison

You'll serve as the liaison between the operating room staff and the surgery patient's waiting family and friends.

You'll also assist with discharges, help with paper management and run errands

PACU/Day Surgery

You'll assist with the discharge of patients, transfer of patient belongings, providing blankets and pillows for patients and restocking supplies to par levels.

Outpatient Surgical Center

You'll direct families to appropriate areas, assist in answering phones and direct messages to appropriate recipient. You'll also run errands to the hospital, prepare patient charts, prepare forms for patients and assist with paper management.

Emergency Department

You'll provide support to the emergency department staff in a very busy environment by:

  • Overseeing waiting room
  • Helping patients and visitors
  • Stocking supply carts
  • Rounding on patients
  • Transporting patients out in wheelchairs
  • Running lab errands
  • Other tasks

Cancer Services

You'll provide clerical and other support in the Cancer Resource Center, Radiation Oncology department or the Breast Center.

EvergreenHealth Monroe

You'll provide support in the Emergency Department or at the hospital's front desk.

EvergreenHealth Redmond

You'll provide assistance to visitors and patients as they arrive at the Urgent Care center, or support the Emergency Department by stocking supplies or greeting patients at the front desk.
