Mary Shepler, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Nursing Officer
Mary Shepler is responsible for inpatient nursing areas, emergency services, overall nursing practice and patient experience for the entire EvergreenHealth system.
Shepler joined EvergreenHealth in 2019 after 34 years with SCL Health in Colorado, where she began her health care career as a new graduate registered nurse working on the medical floor. Before coming to EvergreenHealth, she served for nine years as Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer for SCL Health – St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, a 400-bed teaching hospital with 1990 full-time-equivalent staff members and 1,618 medical staff.
Shepler had direct accountability for providing strategic leadership of full-scale nursing services and patient care services, driving significant improvements in patient satisfaction and nurse communication. She led the organization through its first American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Magnet Designation in 2017, receiving 5 “Exemplar” ratings. Shepler earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado, her master’s in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and her doctoral degree in Nursing Practice, Leadership from, Capella University and also holds a Nurse Executive–Advanced Certification (NEA-BC).
